Did You Know?
Harvard Business School sends more graduates into management consulting than into any other single industry, including finance, technology, and entrepreneurship combined.

How to Get Started
Getting started in management consulting begins with developing the habit of looking at problems from the outside in. Consultants are trained to ask why before they ask how, to question assumptions that everyone else has stopped questioning, and to find clarity in situations that feel too complicated to untangle. Those instincts can be built long before anyone sets foot in a consulting firm.
Explore the Basics
Think about a problem in your neighborhood or community that has not been solved yet, like a park that nobody uses, a crossing that feels unsafe, or a community event that keeps getting low attendance, and write down three questions you would want to answer before deciding how to fix it. Consultants always start with questions before solutions, because understanding the problem clearly is more than half the work.
Try It Out
Find a simple game that involves strategy, like chess, checkers, or a card game, and after each game, spend five minutes writing down one decision you made that worked and one that did not, and why. Building the habit of reflecting on your own thinking and figuring out where it went wrong is one of the most important skills a consultant develops over an entire career.
Join the Community
Find out if your school or community has a student council or youth advisory board you can join, where kids get to weigh in on real decisions about how things are run. Practicing the skill of listening to what different people want, thinking through the tradeoffs, and helping a group reach a decision together is exactly what consultants do for a living, just at a much larger scale.
