What It Is
The Incredible Dr. Pol is a reality television series that aired new episodes on Nat Geo Wild from 2011 to 2024, ending after 24 seasons. The show follows Dr. Jan Pol, a veterinarian born in the Netherlands in 1942, and the team at Pol Veterinary Services, the practice he opened in 1981 in Weidman, a rural part of central Michigan. Dr. Pol and his team treat a wide range of patients, from dogs and cats to cows, horses, pigs, and other farm animals, and the show follows the whole clinic team as they work through each case.
Why It Matters
The Incredible Dr. Pol brought the everyday work of a rural veterinary clinic into living rooms for more than a decade. Many young viewers rarely get to see large animal medicine up close, and the show let them watch farm calls, surgeries, and emergencies as they happened. It also showed that veterinary care is a team effort, with veterinarians, technicians, and support staff all playing a part in each diagnosis, treatment, and recovery. For young people who love animals and want to see what working on a veterinary team can look like, the show offers a window into the profession.
