Who She Is
Tainy, whose real name is Marco Efraín Masís Fernández, is a Puerto Rican record producer known for shaping modern reggaeton and Latin trap. Born in San Juan in 1989, he was making beats by age 12 and, at 15, was signed by the reggaeton production duo Luny Tunes after they heard his homemade beats. Because he was still a minor, they had to meet with his mother before he could sign. Tainy has produced hit songs for major artists including Bad Bunny, J Balvin, Selena Gomez, and Cardi B, whose 2018 song "I Like It" with Bad Bunny and J Balvin reached number one in the United States, and Rolling Stone has called him the architect of modern reggaeton. In 2019, he co-founded Neon16, a music and media company that supports and develops new artists and producers.
Why She Matters
Tainy's success shows how a young producer with a distinct sound can help push an entire genre onto the world stage. His production style, which blends traditional reggaeton rhythms with modern pop and electronic elements, has played a major role in the global rise of Latin music over the past decade. By starting his career as a teenager and continuing to evolve his sound, Tainy demonstrates that age is not a barrier to making a real impact in the music industry. For young people who love multiple genres of music and want to see how those genres can blend together, Tainy's career offers an exciting, modern example of what a producer can achieve.
