Who She Is
Christina Tosi grew up obsessed with the snacks and sweets of American childhood, cereal, potato chips, birthday cake frosting straight from the container. Instead of leaving those flavors behind when she became a professional chef, she built a career around them. She trained at the French Culinary Institute and worked at some of New York's top restaurants before opening Milk Bar in 2008, where her compost cookies, cereal milk soft serve, and crack pie turned nostalgic flavors into something genuinely original. Milk Bar grew from a single New York location into a national brand, and Tosi became a familiar face as a judge on MasterChef and MasterChef Junior.
Why She Matters
Tosi's story is a reminder that your own taste is one of the most powerful tools you have as a pastry chef. She did not try to make food that sounded impressive. Rather, she made food that she actually loved, and it turned out that a lot of other people loved it too. For any young baker who has wondered whether their ideas are too weird or too personal to be taken seriously, her career is a direct and joyful answer.
