Overview
Charlotte Cho is a Korean American licensed esthetician, author, and entrepreneur. She was born and raised in Southern California and moved to South Korea at 22 for a job, where she came to see skincare as self-care. In 2012, she and her husband, David, started Soko Glam, an online shop that sells Korean skin care products in the United States. She has said they wanted to tell the story of Korean beauty “from the lens of someone who understood Korean and American culture.” After starting the business, she earned her esthetician license and, in 2015, published The Little Book of Skin Care.
Why She Matters
Charlotte Cho shows that an esthetician can do much more than work in a spa, since she became an author and a business owner. Her company helped introduce Korean skin care ideas to many shoppers in the United States. Soko Glam promotes the Korean “skin first” philosophy, which prioritizes caring for healthy skin over covering it up. Her path, with her esthetics license added after she started her business, shows that people can enter esthetics from many directions. For anyone who likes people, science, and sharing what they learn, her career shows that skin care can include writing and storytelling.
