The Coolest Inventor: Willis Haviland Carrier and His Air Conditioner (Inventors at Work!)
About
Icy cold air conditioning is very common in many peoples lives. But there was a time when this popular luxury did not exist. People had to think of other ways to keep cool on hot, humid days. It was also too hot in factories and hospitals, theaters and cars. Willis Carrier changed all that! Authors Alison and Stephen Eldridge explore how his love of science and fixing things led to a lifetime of adventure, research, and the discovery of air conditioning!
Why it’s great
Before Willis Carrier, people in factories, hospitals, theaters, and offices simply had to endure the heat. This engaging picture biography shows how his love of science and fixing things led to years of research and the invention that changed everything. Written to bring an overlooked pioneer to life for young readers, it is an inviting first look at the curious, problem-solving mind behind the air conditioning most of us take for granted.
